Latest News: The Regents have included a request for increased funding for graduate students in their upcoming budget!

Coalition for Affordable Public Education (CAPE)

CAPE works to increase state funding for the public university system in Wisconsin and thereby increase access to higher education. Our members are UW-Madison and UW-System faculty, academic staff, labor groups, graduate students, undergraduate students, community leaders and alumni. Though we are a diverse group, we are united by the belief that accessible, affordable and high-quality public education and vibrant research programs are of crucial importance to both our universities and to the state of Wisconsin.

Graduate education is particularly under attack at UW-Madison, as the number of funded students has been reduced due to budget shortfalls over the last few years. The loss of support for graduate education is having detrimental effects on the university as top professors leave and vital services to the community dwindle. It is imperative to change this trend as soon as possible, for once the university has lost its best people, it will take a lot more money and many years to return the university to its current level of academic excellence. As one of the main economic engines for the state of Wisconsin, all citizens in the state will suffer along with the university.

To make changes to the current state of higher education funding, CAPE needs your help! Use the links on the left to get involved today!
